Incontinence Treatment

An Effective Treatment for Incontinence

Horse therapy can be an effective treatment for incontinence.  People who are incontinent after an irreversible injury or illness often assume the problem was caused by the injury. That’s not necessarily true.

People naturally move less after an injury or illness. When the condition continues for an extended time, unused muscles get weak and often lead to incontinence.

Horse therapy can help alleviate this type of incontinence. Here’s how it works. The gait of a walking horse is very similar to the human gait. Riding a horse forces some of the rider’s muscles to move as if the person was walking normally. This gentle, repetitive movement stretches and strengthens these muscles instead of allowing them to stay dormant. The result is better bladder control.
